What is “Tone Suckage”?

Most guitarist that play electric guitars usually end up with a series of effects pedals. Because the chain can become quite long, the big question that most guitarist will ask about any new pedal is if it “sucks tone”.

To put it simply, it refers to the loss of signal when it runs through a pedal or pedals with the effect disengaged.   The more pedals in the chain, the worse the supposed clean signal becomes.

There are ways to minimize this effect, which will be covered later.
